Sweetfern, Comptonia peregrina, is neither sweet nor a fern. It looks like something the dinosaurs would have walked through, releasing the warmest, spiciest aromas of imagination.
Exciting!! And I have something to mail to you, too! Trip to PO delayed due to recent lack of transportation, but I'll get there sooner or later. Well, I guess it's already "later." But I'll get there!
Thanks, Chris! The top snap was serendipitous, as I happened to notice the colorful juxtaposition while gathering tools for a hoof-trimming session. The chair is a good pIace to rest my back AFTER a hoof-trimming session ;)
There's been a skim of ice, soon melted, a couple of times, but only one morning so far when I had to punch through ice in a water bucket even at 10AM.
Thank you for leaving a comment! I enjoy reading each one, and will usually reply either here or on YOUR blog!

DeleteLovely late leaves. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteStill lots on the trees here, as not many windy days. Enjoying the cold sunny days without wind VERY much!
DeleteA bit of real red along with the rest.
ReplyDeleteI made a point of going out during a rain to get the particular brightness that only appears in wet and overcast conditions :)
DeleteAh, autumn in her splendor. My favorites are the top and bottom photos - the close-up and the long perspective. Thank you.

DeleteI am so glad that lovely photo of leaves in the bucket isn't iced over.

DeleteI had to study the first picture to figure out if that bucket was iced over...very glad it wasn't!
ReplyDeleteIt had been, but the ice was thin and had mostly melted. When I took the snap, only the tips of the leaves were still encased in ice :)
