In choosing subjects for daily markmaking,
I sometimes deliberately stretch beyond my comfort zone.
By the way...
who knew there would ever be a markmaking comfort zone?
Life is full of surprises!
Anyway.
Last night was my first attempt at a bear.
With thanks to KB for sharing the video this youngster appeared in.
Readers, if you click the link, you'll see the bear climbing the tree
and "posing" for me within the first 10 seconds of the video.
But you'll want to watch the whole two minutes!

It would only be out of the comfort zone if you were drawing with a live model! lol. Good drawing; very appealing. I think it's always important to stretch ourselves. How else can we grow?
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a family of black bears on my doorstep for quite a few years now. They are so interesting to watch, but I do think they are better off a little deeper in the woods :)
DeleteGood attempt I say. The bear's personality shows.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to watch that video! Your 'marks' capture Brownie wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteKB gets some of the best footage of wildlife I've ever seen. I can't imagine how much time and energy she puts into editing her photographs and videos - they are excellent!
DeleteSuch great trail cam footage. Wow! So fun to watch the bears playing while mama was just doing her thing. That tree was just a tad small for not so little little bear. :) Nice sketching. Happy September!
ReplyDeleteI had a similar feeling about mama bear - as long as the cubs aren't in danger, I think she must be relieved to have a little "me time" :)
DeleteLove your drawing! Such talent! (shh! don't be modest!) And I was enthralled by the bear video - thanks for sharing! I've seen bears when hiking, but one has to be so wary... to be able to observe like this in safety was a treat! Oh and your zinnias are gorgeous! (as are your photos of them!) I am going to have to find me some! ~Kim/Ravensnest
ReplyDeleteSo ice to hear from you, Kim! I agree, it is more relaxing watching bears on video :)
DeleteI'll save as much zinnia seed as I can, but will buy some too "just in case." I plan to have zinnias very year now!
I meant NICE not ICE...I should probably go back to bed and start this morning over! ;)
DeleteLovelovelove your bear!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jean :)
