  1. Quite a difference once you add water. I bought some but have never actually used them as watercolor, just as pencils, which makes no sense. But now they are mixed with all the other pencils I have so will have to do a sort out.

    1. They are so portable and convenient, and very flexible, too. You can wet the tips of the pencils and "paint" directly with them (that might be the fastest way to sort yours out from amongst your other pencils!) or you can wet a brush and pick up just a bit of paint from the tip of a pencil. Or you can draw with them as I did above, and then play with different brushes and ways of moving the paint around. If you try it, let me know what you think!

  3. Not having an artistic bone in my body, I didn't know you could get pencils that did this (though my mother used to paint in watercolour, acrylic and oil). Amazing. I loved your bear, by the way! It seemed rather a coy bear, I thought.

    1. Hmmm...I'm not sure it's possible to have a photographer's eye (which you certainly do) without ALSO having an artistic bone ;)
I didn't know how watercolor pencils "work" until I bought a little set for travel sketching, and then kept them in a drawer for about 20 years. When I finally dusted them off and started playing around with them, it was a revelation. If I ever am able to travel again, I will plan to actually draw things this time.

  4. It blows my mind that you can start with a bunch of pencils and a blank piece of paper - and end up with such a vibrant work of art!!! Amazing :)

  6. What fun. Water colors are something I could never get the hang of, but I never tried the pencils. Your work makes me want to try!

  7. That's beautiful! Since I'm brand new to watercolor, I think I'll wait till I master that before I branch out into watercolor pencils.
