Sweetfern, Comptonia peregrina, is neither sweet nor a fern. It looks like something the dinosaurs would have walked through, releasing the warmest, spiciest aromas of imagination.
Ha! I should tell you that I painted those leaves while it was raining but from inside the porch - it's young sugar maple that grows right by the southwest window!
Thank you for encouraging my ongoing drawing efforts - I am kind of amazed that I haven't yet missed a single day in 2018! Probably shouldn't say that out loud, though :)
I've always enjoyed the sound of rain - even heavy storms that make some people uneasy - but just last night I was thinking I could do with a little less frequency of listening to it, It's been the soundtrack of Summer this year, playing on a loop, and it's kind of loud on the porch which is where I pretty much live, and where I try to sleep ;)
We've had a lot of rain here too in the past couple of weeks. Most of the rivers are at or above flood stage. But this morning our rain turned to slush - and then we actually had snow sticking on the ground & trees. I'm not ready for winter yet!
I would not be thrilled to see snow at this point, although we've certainly had it this early. I've got too much "before winter" stuff on my task list! hope you get a nice reprieve of balmy Autumn weather :)

Doesn't look as if all that rain has affected your drawing skills - good thing, because it's hard to draw with waterlogged fingers.

DeleteOh my, I hope that it stops soon. I love your drawing. It's quintessential autumn!

DeleteThose leaves are beautiful. Been pouring here all night (it's pretty to listen to).
