  1. Quinn, the weather and wind chill have been horrible! This morning it was zero F but no wind; during the night, at 3:00, the temp was 2 above and the wind chill was between 15 and 20 below zero. I got up to stoke the wood stove and turn up the thermostats...better to spend money on oil than on repairs.
I had to drive to Grand Rapids, MI, left Sunday morning and spent dang near every single mile in cold, snow, ice, some wind...almost 1,300 miles! If the weather report had been what it turned into, I would never have left home! God knows the toil the cold, stress, tension, etc. took on on my body; I am SO glad to be home! Thank You, God!
You stay warm and be careful.

  2. We really seem to be "in for it" already this year, don't we, Sandra?
And driving! When I think of the years of my life I spent commuting halfway across the state, through winter weather, white-knuckled all the way, I am amazed and grateful to still be alive. I am so glad you made it home in one piece! Let's hear it for hot beverages and cozy chairs - after chores, of course ;)

  3. Brrr!
-11ºF here at 98 AM. No wind, thank goodness.
Winter can do what it wants to as long as it keeps the ice off the roads, power lines, roof tops, sidewalks, etcetera.

  5. Oh help that's cold! I feel the cold badly, so when the forecast says "feels like -10" I think, not to me! more like -20 in my case.
I thought it was cold when we walked on the beach with -4 temps. almost HOT by comparison with yours.

    1. When the wind was blowing up a gale the night before, it was brutal. I closed all the barn doors for the first time!

  7. Bitterly cold here, too, single digits and with a windchill. I'm blessed in that I don't have to go out at all today.

    1. I wouldn't mind a day when I don't have to go out at all, every now and then! But I wouldn't want a day when I can't go out even if I want to :)

  8. I don't know how you manage the chores in those temps. I sometimes take care of my friend's horses, and my hands turn white and numb almost immediately if it's anywhere below freezing. Handling metal buckets etc - ah, it's so hard!!!

    I admire you immensely!

    1. I do wish the goats would hold still for the few seconds it takes to buckle and unbuckle their collars - that is, he few seconds it would take IF they would hold still! Then I could do it without taking off my gloves. But the youngsters in particular just can't keep from twisting their heads around, trying to see what I'm doing, Which is the same thing I do every morning: put their collars on so they can have their buckets! You have to laugh, really. :)

  9. I am not a cold weather person so this would likely make me hibernate. Wishing you all the best as you take care of the homestead and all those critters in those conditions. Take care, stay safe and warm, Tammy
