We've had two more snowstorms which have been pretty to look at and certainly more comfortable to work in than several days of rain. Now the snow is gone, the rain has stopped for a couple of days, and we've even seen the sun.
But it's been very cold again - in the low 20s when I get up - and windy.
Biting winds.
Here's a hungry chickadee, back turned to the wind.
Brrrrrrr.
My birdfeeders have never been busier than in recent months. I haven't totted up how many pounds of feed have been purchased, but I consider the cost to be my Entertainment Budget. And well spent.
Goldfinches are such scrappy little birds. They'd rather argue than eat.
And now the goldfinches are starting to color up. Spring is near.
This little nuthatch was perfectly still for about two minutes.
Lost in thought?
Mourning doves are so colorful.
Understated, but colorful.
Speaking of color...
Fingers crossed the bluebirds will continue to visit a while longer.

Lovely birds, thank you. It's been bright sun here and a bitter wind, very deceptive when you look out, and run back in for a warmer coat.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely much better entertainment than anything hollywood can think up. And a much nicer time spent gazing and marveling at their resilience. Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteYou got more snow than we did. But I agree with the temps. Looks like some warmer weather next week.... You got some great shots of the birds. I love nuthatches.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bunch of birds, each in its own way. The best kind of entertainment.

Thank you for the birdie pictures - they made my day. We no longer put out seed over the winter because it attracts squirrels who, in turn, love to eat wiring in the cars in the parking lot. Instead we have a suet feeder that the RC keeps supplied. Sadly this time of year we are inundated with flocks of starlings who will decimate the suet inside of an hour so he will be taking the feeder down until fall. It's such fun to watch the downy woodpeckers squabbling over it but oddly they are content to let the nuthatches and a larger red-bellied woodpecker feed at the same time. Good entertainment over the winter. This year I missed having the mourning doves sitting on my sewing room windowsill peering in to see what I'm doing. For most of the winter there was too much snow piled on the windowsills for them to have a place to land.
