Sweetfern, Comptonia peregrina, is neither sweet nor a fern. It looks like something the dinosaurs would have walked through, releasing the warmest, spiciest aromas of imagination.

Oops! Looks like you got more snow. You got a cake in the mail? Happy Caturday!
ReplyDeleteYes - is that great mail, or what? :)
DeleteYesterday looks like some of the goats are out of the enclosure or a new one. Happy Spring!
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean, but it's an illusion :) The fence bends around in that spot, protecting the last remaining blueberry bush.
DeleteAh, the cake! Was it as delicious as it looks?
ReplyDeleteI love this post. Good days. :-)
The cake is so densely rich and flavorful I think I will be forced to buy vanilla ice cream to add an accent note!
DeleteSnow! Lucky you! (although I bet that you're getting tired of it).
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks stupendous!
At this point, I kind of wish the icy patches would melt. We've got foot-deep snow, fine. We've got bare ground, fine. And lots of areas still covered in ice, especially on my paths between the barns and gates - so I still have to wear cleats and keep one arm free to grab fences to try to keep from falling during chores. Oh well, this slow melt of residual winter and added light snowstorms means more groundwater replenishment - especially important after the past couple of years!
ReplyDeleteOh have mercy! All that snow and ice...Lord, have mercy! Quinn, you are in my heart felt prayers!
ReplyDeleteOh, it's just March. April will be April!
DeleteWould you like some of our 32 C (98 F ) weather? Hope you have spring soon. The cake looks yummy. And the kittens adorable.
ReplyDeleteOops, that should have been 89 F.
ReplyDelete89 without humidity would be kind of nice as a change - would bake that winter right out of my bones! :) Relentless heat can be tough, I know. Actually, I don't know any place that has really comfortable (to me) weather all the time, so I usually take it in stride - or try to - no matter what it is. And once I'm outside, I'm usually fine. It's GOING outside that seems a bit harder lately. Maybe it's not the weather; maybe it's just my own creaky self! Uh-oh.
DeleteCake? You get cake in the mail? Wow - how do I get on THAT mailing list?!!!!
ReplyDeleteChocolate cake in the mail?! How wonderful!
