Sweetfern, Comptonia peregrina, is neither sweet nor a fern. It looks like something the dinosaurs would have walked through, releasing the warmest, spiciest aromas of imagination.
You did what I wimped out on when I looked at the thermometer. I wanted to take photos of the birds all fluffed up. I'm glad that you did! They sure do look well insulated. I hope that you're staying warm!
Me, too! I'm so glad the birds can fluff up and self-insulate. But this brutally cold temps are hard for them, nonetheless. I'm keeping the feeder full and hoping for kinder conditions soon.
