following up

Well the snow started again before I even got out the door.
I think the last time we had this much snow, Piper was out doing chores with me.
I miss Piper so much.

The vantage point chair on the Upper West Side.
I did not sit and enjoy the view today.

The house seen from the barn, with smoke rising from the chimney.
I stayed in the barn for a few minutes sharing out peanuts to these two:

Azalea

and Azalea's mum, Lily of the Valley.

Many of the goats will be going a little stir-crazy if we don't see the sun soon.
When the sun appears, the goats will all be out regardless of the snow.
None of them have to be out in this weather, but maybe you could see the snowflakes on Azalea? And here is Bud, wading between the stilt barn and the temporary shelter:

I don't know if you can see it clearly in the snaps, but the wide shadow
along the edge of each roof indicates the depth of the snow. It's a lot.
But as long as we don't lose power (and therefore water), we're fine here.
Plenty of access to feed, shelters, and water.
Plenty of wood for the stove.
All's well.
Touch wood.

  1. Your home looks so snug! Well, your whole place does, actually. But what a lit of snow. Keeping you in my thoughts,Quinn.

    1. I think little houses tend to look snug. at least until you get inside! ;)

  2. It's been a long time since I've had to dig out like this! The white stuff is pretty (I'm hoping to get out xc skiing today). Grateful that the power is on. Stay warm!

  3. Stay Safe!
One of those roof poles or gnarly branch tied to a long rope tossed on the roof can bring down some snow. Have a path made to get out of the way.
I used a section of wired garden edging with the curly parts bent like a claw to grab stuff stuck on the roof and to clean gutters.

    1. I do have one of the really long "roof rakes" for snow, but honestly, just getting the necessary chores done while wading and wobbling through all the snow that's on the ground is about all that I can handle at the moment. The roof snow will have to wait :)

  5. Your house looks like a nice warm respite from all that snow. They said we were going to have an old-fashioned winter and it looks as though that forecast is proving to be right.
