Sweetfern, Comptonia peregrina, is neither sweet nor a fern. It looks like something the dinosaurs would have walked through, releasing the warmest, spiciest aromas of imagination.
Whew! Glad you're feeling fortunate - a good state of mind after an expensive emergency. Sounds like you have a good pump man. The fairy lights in snow are captivating, and what the heck is that woodpecker investigating?
The woodpecker is pulling hulled sunflower seeds, one by one, out of the "squirrel-proof" feeder, despite the suet block with handy tail brace about 18 inches away! Tastes differ :)
The only thing worse than water in the wrong place is no water at all, especially when you have dependent animals. I'm glad it's fixed, though dang, that's expensive.
Yep. I blinked at the estimate, and it came in a bit higher. But I'm just so relieved the problem wasn't worse! The pump man clearly expected it to be.

Hooray for running water - but not the price tag associated with it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the lights in the snow!
It could have been so much worse! I feel very fortunate. The pump man said he bet he felt even happier about it that I did, but I think it was mutual.

DeletePretty pictures. Glad water is running again.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteWhat great photographs! And wow, that's a hefty bill to get your water fixed! But it's a true necessity, so doing what ya gotta do is the only option.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky, really!
DeleteYay for running water! The snow and the lights are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteYAYYY!
DeleteOh no. I missed your earlier post! Glad it is fixed but what a price tag. The photos of the lights are magical.
ReplyDeleteThe pump man was clearly expecting something even worse, so the overall atmosphere was one of Great Relief at the end of the day!
DeleteAgreed! :)
