reaching for the light

A watercolor impression of Heliconia estherae
from a photograph by Axel Dalberg Poulsen, a tropical forest botanist studying
the taxonomy and evolution of gingers.
Heliconia estherae is now known in the wild in only two municipalities in Columbia; Dr. Poulsen's photograph was taken in the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

We may not be a tropical zone here in Massachusetts,
but the daylight is lengthening:

Do you ever use SunriseSunset.com to make a free calendar for your specific location? I often do, and since it is up to the user how many types of information are included, I ask for lots of things. The last one here - "Len" - is length of daylight.

  1. Perfect subject for a dreary December day!

I've never heard of SunriseSunset.com, but I have been looking far a calendar with rise and set times. One year we got a farmer's type almanac calendar from a local business and I loved it. I looked for something similar this year, but it seems the only way to buy them is in lots of 100 for businesses.

    1. I've been using SunriseSunset.com for many years, so I hope it will continue to be available for many, many more! Very helpful for all sorts of things...gardening, laying hens, awareness of the movement of the planets, general lifting of spirits... :)

  2. Thank you so much for the SunriseSunset website. I often go to the weather site I use and search around for the information (which they seem to move all the time) so now I can have it all and even print it! Thank you. And thanks for that flower picture; very inspirational for this time of year.

  4. I don't know if you read the knitting site Mason Dixon Knitting but there's a piece today that made me think of you. I don't know how to link but if you go to masondixonknitting.com and click on Inspiration, you can read "Why is Making by Hand Important to You?"

  5. I think that we are all reaching for the light, so your beautiful watercolor has multiple meanings. I see that you already have 2 min more of light. Yahoo!!!!

  6. We all reach for the light this time of year so it's encouraging to know that the days are lengthening, even if it's not all that obvious. The news program we watch always gives the hours of daylight each day.
