the last morning of 2018

On this morning of the final day of the year,
I'm doing a bit of thinking back and thinking ahead.

While I'm doing all this thinking, what task could be more appropriate
than cleaning the seeds saved from this year's gardens?

Do you have any special plans for this New Year's Eve?
Or, depending on your place in the world, New Year's Day?

  1. As I have done almost every year since my kids were little, I will be making chocolate fondue. It started, frankly, in a moment of self pity that I was the only grown up left home with all the family's children while the others went out to celebrate. Our first 'fondue' consisted of a thinned down hershey bar and a sliced apple, but the kids loved it and it turned into a fun night for them and for me. Now, nearly 40 years later, it is my grandkids' favorite holiday, and both the fondue ingredients and the dippers have expanded over the years. A happy time and a reminder to me that the little things really are the big things. I have still never gone out on new year's eve but I don't feel even a tiny bit sorry about it anymore.

  3. New year's Eve has always been quiet for me. Since I was taken out for dinner and a massive surprise birthday cake, i have some delicious cake to share. So I invited my son to cake and prosecco this evening for a while. Unusual to see him on NYE so this is a treat. Happy New Year, Quinn, and thank you for some bright and calming spots in a rough year.

  4. No celebrations here - and there hasn't been since we had kids over 30 years ago. We are always in bed by midnight, books in hand and one eye on the clock so we can wish each other a happy new year. The only 'out' we have planned for tonight is a drop off of supper to friends who aren't well.

    1. I had planned on watching the ball drop until I saw the big switch on a news show, and the name "China..." next to the big switch. I understand China owns the right to, but the ball dropping is an iconic American event, our New Year tradition, and only USA should be on that switch, IMHO. I will not be watching the ball drop festivities.

  8. Well, we worked in our booths at an antique mall, LOL! Then to a hotel for dinner and a little celebration. Then to grocery store, then home. We always stay up even if it's just the two of us, and celebrate witha a fire, some bubbly and firing off the shotgun, as most people on our sparsely populated ridge do. Tomrrow's plans include a hike in Ohio to Old Man's Cave.
    Happy New Year, Quinn!
