housekeeping


Just a quick blogistics note...

When I put up a new post, I usually respond to comments on the previous post at the same time. My internetting has been in fits and starts recently, so this may mean a lengthy delay between your comment and my response - sorry!

Comments are one of the best parts of blogging, and according to the blog stats, I receive an average of roughly one comment per 100 pageviews - you folks are a quiet lot! I do try to stay in touch either through comments on your blogs, or here. I just want you to know you may have to look back to the prior post for a response to a comment you've made on Comptonia.

Does that make sense?
I hope so.

    I agree - it is discouraging when people visit and don't say hi. I'm always astounded when one of the blogs I follow offer a giveaway and suddenly their comments go from practically nil up to dozens, if not hundreds. I don't expect people to comment every time they pop in because I know they're busy, but it would be nice if they did even once in awhile. And yes, looking back at the prior post makes sense - I've been checking for awhile.

      Well, I'm happy that people enjoy Comptonia whether they ever feel like commenting or not, but it is especially nice to get to know readers a bit, too :) Also, I remember years ago when blogging was quite young, I followed many blogs and was always too shy to comment! Can you believe it? I swear it's true!

      Oh yes, I believe it - been there! I'm still lurking on a few blogs that I absolutely am intimidated to even admit that I'm there. I know - I outta woman-up and do the right thing!

    I know what Magpie is talking about. It is an amazing thing to see a blog go from dozens of comments to hundreds when there's a giveaway.

      Re: giveaways, I think it's expected that there will be a lot of entries to a giveaway - in fact, I think that's how a lot of people discover interesting blogs to follow. I certainly have. Sometimes I don't even enter the giveaway but begin following the blog! What surprises me is when there is a single comment on one of my posts, but I later notice there have been hundreds of pageviews. Doesn't bother me - just surprises me a bit :)

    Oh, dear! I'm one of the quiet ones, I guess. In all fairness, I haven't been keeping up to date with my own blog, much less others. I do stop by here everytime I get a chance to check my reading list and see that you posted. I alway enjoy whatever you have posted. I will try to do better and say hello more often.
