dealing

You know how sometimes - like on a Friday afternoon when you are waiting for a call from your vet who is consulting remotely with a radiologist and will get back to you within the hour - well, you know how in such times you may find yourself somehow trying to make a deal with fate?

The call just came. Moxie does not have to be rushed straight back to the vet's office where she spent a harrowing two hours this morning. Because Moxie does not have to have major surgery this afternoon.

Hallelujah!

She will be on a new, anti-inflammatory medication, right here at home, while I continue to try to keep her eating and hydrated and in good spirits. Monday, we will see how she is doing. We're still at sea as far as identifying the source of the problem, but - at least for today - the news is so much better than it might have been. For now, supportive care, not major surgery.

And I will be spending every possible hour this weekend cleaning the house. I can't overstate how happy and grateful I am for this opportunity. I have never approached housework with such genuine joy in my entire life.

Thank you so much for your good thoughts and prayers - this week has been difficult, hour by hour, day by day, and it helped me very much to know you were thinking of Moxie.

Please have a wonderful weekend, and tell me all about it!

  1. I've been thinking of both of you, and so glad it's not an all out crisis after all. How's the other kitty handling it? It's been pretty tense chez Quinn lately.

    1. Everything is upside down for all of us, even the goats - feeding schedules awry, and so on. But at least Della has been having a little share in all the various foods and treats I've been offering Moxie ;)

  2. Prayers continue
Posting the symptoms might help or at least ease you worries a bit. I've read blogs where readers have helped the blogger that posted the symptoms of an ill pet.

    1. Thank you! Honestly, writing about it in more detail would probably make it worse for me right now - it's hard to write about it at all. Fortunately I have a lot of confidence in my vets and feel we are on the same page in terms of info and treatment and communication.

  3. Definitely thinking of Moxie (and you). Our Mitzy once went through a period where she flatly refused to eat and was losing weight. I ended up buying a can of food (she always wanted dry food) and force feeding her. Whatever it was that was bothering her disappeared and she lived three or four more years. I thought trying to force feed a cat would be a lesson in pain (mine) but she knew I was trying to help her and she accepted it without a fight.

    1. Fingers crossed it won't be necessary, but surgery may still be on the horizon. Not today, though - and not with an hour's warning! What a day.

  13. I am very glad to read this, Quinn. She's been on my mind since your last post. We do dearly love our animals, don't we. I will hope to hear good news of her continuing improvement.
