The windowboxes are in place,
and the little plants are beginning to grow.
The simple experimental brackets and shelf are working,
though I may make small changes someday.
Or some year.
It was difficult to envision the proportions on individual pieces until everything was in place, and by the time I had decided on the measurements of the brackets pieces and put them together, made a trip to the lumber mill and fetched home an 8' and a 12' piece of 1x12" roughcut for the shelves, gone to the hardware store to buy the proper screws, installed the brackets, and lifted each of the seven planted boxes onto the shelves...
I was ready to call the job "finished for now."
And they are already making me quite happy!
Some of the nasturtiums are even beginning to flower!
(Here, with window screen Special Effects)
Piper, too, is absolutely beside herself with delight
about the windowboxes!
Well, she may not really care about the windowboxes,
but Piper always enjoys the porch.
And so do I, especially when it's as hot outside as it is right now.
This afternoon is going to be spent on the porch.
Living in the moment.
There will be knitting.
There will be sketching.
There will be beef-flavored biscuits.
That last one is for Piper,
but the knitting and sketching is all for me.
I hope you are having a peaceful and restorative Sunday.

Yay for having the window boxes in! And Piper looks so comfy. What a great porch.
ReplyDeleteDarling Piper, what a lovely photo of her and how she reminds me of my old girl. Beef flaavoured buscuits, what a treat!
ReplyDeleteShe's never quite sure the biscuits are really good, and always has to have Just One More to be certain ;)
DeleteSo glad your window box project is done so you can sit back and enjoy them (well, that's if you don't count the toting of water). I spent the afternoon on the balcony with book in hand. Ah, bliss. Alas no biscuits - human or otherwise.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should say that...I just came in from watering them. And the gardens. I may need more hose!
DeleteWhen everything is blooming profusely I want a full front view of the window boxes. After the work and thought you put in them they deserve to be shown off. And Piper is waiting patiently for that biscuit.
ReplyDeleteYou bet! I'm hoping for profuse and cascading...the whole deal :)
DeletePiper is sleeping off the biscuits she already had LOL!
So glad the window boxes are working. Your nasturtiums are way ahead of mine. Nice to sit in such good company on the porch!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised the nasturtiums are growing up - albeit in a very leggy fashion - instead of hanging down...I always thought of them as hanging plants. Pretty, anyway!
DeleteAhem. A pic of the week new window boxes (and brackets / supports) please...
ReplyDeletePerhaps a simple irrigation system is in the "someday / some year" plans?
Maybe someday - it would be lovely! My little garden areas are scattered all over the place to utilize little pockets of sunlight, and I'm still working on having a hose set up to reach each area. Last year I invested in actual rubber hose, and thought I had enough, but not quite; I'm still hauling watering cans to three small areas every day. And the windowboxes, but they only take a couple of minutes and it's well worth the time :)
DeleteYay! I'm glad you got them up. Porch time with Piper sounds wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteIt really is very pleasant :)
DeleteSo pleased for you that the window box project is now done and dusted, and looks to be a great success. Now you can sit back and enjoy your trailing pretty plants.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed there will be trailing! :)
DeletePiper has a lot of personality. That photo is a note card picture of summer attitude.
ReplyDeletePiper doesn't look like she gets excited about much of anything! LOL
ReplyDeleteDon't be fooled :) Piper goes from Neutral to 4th gear in the blink of an eye!
DeleteIt's so great to see your window boxes with flowers in them after participating in the comments when you were asking opinions about design. They look great. Beautiful flowers. But Piper doesn't look excited. Maybe if you planted milkbone trees Piper would be overjoyed!
ReplyDeleteHa! She does enjoy finding treats outdoors, and I'd rather have her eating dog-bikkies than some of the stuff she comes up with! She became a real pro at our games of "Wait....Go Find It!" last August, during our little sketching adventures in the woods :)
