november notes

I recently remembered that grilled cheese sandwiches exist.
This was a happy thing, because I'm hitting a lot of obstacles to task completion lately, and am not feeling much satisfaction in "jobs well done."
Because they are not done.

My biggest achievement in the past few days:
grilled cheese sandwiches.
Organic butter, bread, sharp cheddar.
One of my old Pyrex skillets -
the little ones that are just right for this job.
And in a very few minutes:

So. Good.

This is Piper during our Sanity Break in the woods yesterday.
I am sitting on my "sketching cushion" a few feet away.
Sneaky Ms. Piper crept up near me and stood very still.

She really believes I cannot see her.

Maybe I can't see you, Piper,
but I definitely know where your jacket is!

Piper still turns away from the camera when she sees it,
but I managed to get this hug-and-click shot.
Sneaky tactics!
I learn so much from my dog ;)

Tsuga and her babies (who are almost 7 months old, can you believe it?) have been spending sunny afternoons browsing the Lower West Side. The rest of the herd is enjoying the remains of the terrace vegetable garden, since the fences came down on Monday. So, in fairness, I had to find a special treat for Tsuga, Tansy and Fern. The little LWS paddock between the road and the driveway is full of leaves and even a little greenery. They've been very busy.

Very, very busy.

I love these colors:
If the cashmere grew in the same color as the topcoat,
Tsuga and her girls would be a perfect fiber palette for me.
~~~
I hope your week is going well, your weather is kind, your tasks and projects are hurdle-free. And I hope you can take time for things that make you feel productive, in an environment that nurtures you.
Adding a few rows in the Knitting Room.
  1. Grilled cheese sandwiches - my absolute favourite and I would live on them if I could. Of course I shouldn't be eating them at all (lactose intolerant) but it doesn't stop me!! Special skritches for camera-shy Piper from me - please.
    1. I just had one for breakfast! But I've been up since 230 so I think it's really "lunch."
  2. That last paragraph is just lovely. Sure wish I had a view like that for crocheting. I've been working long days getting crochet stuff done for the yarnbombing tomorrow and with our unstable weather the past week, I'm hoping we don't have any glitches. I really just want to be done with it all. Jingles turns away whenever she sees a camera so I have to be sneaky, too. :)
  3. GC sandwiches -- my go to supper. Sharp cheddar, home baked bread, cast iron pan, lovely! Piper is the coolest thing since GC sandies!
    1. Homebaked bread would put this in the "gourmet" category! Yum.
  4. GC sandwiches are a no-no in our house due to someone's lipid profile... Darn!!!! (I don't want to tempt him).
    I love Piper's orange vest - perfect for hunting season!
    Ah, I wish I could accomplish something but it seems to be beyond me at the moment between the herniated neck disc and migraines. Ugh. I hope that you accomplish enough for both of us!
    1. Well, I'll keep plugging away in short stints, KB...but it's a fact that most days you accomplish more *before sunrise* than I manage in an entire day! And then you very kindly share the images with your readers :)
  5. Haha dear Piper. My dogs automatically come towards me when I point the camera at them. I have hundreds of photos if wet black noses!
    1. I have taken thousands of blurry nose pictures too, Kath! But in that past year or so, I also acquired a huge portfolio of horizontal blurs. Piper sees the camera and just turns her head away. Or sometimes she hangs her head and gives me a "Why Are You Being So Mean To Me?" look. It's quite bizarre, really!
  6. Why is it some animals turn their heads from a camera! And some pose. Funny, isn't it?
    I adore grilled cheese sandwiches! Especially with tomato, of which I'm harvesting the very last.
    My goats have been going nuts for acorns. They are all getting pretty chubby from them, except my senior buck, who has his mind on other things this lovely rutting season.
