that's entertainment

Need slippers?

Step 1:
knit giant clown-sized wooly footbags.

Step 2:
throw them in the washer with very hot water.
Cross fingers and hope for the best:

Step 3 (optional):
make a before-and-after composite
for full comedic effect.

What, doesn't everybody measure their knitting
with a Biltmore stick?
(It just happened to be handy.)

And here's a rav link to full project details for felted slippers.
You may want to try it!
First it will make you laugh,
then it will keep your feet warm.
How many things can you say that about?

  1. What a difference! I did notice that your yard stick says "log scale stick" on the end. Those new slippers do look warm and cozy! I just have actual shoes for indoors, but really they're not something you can curl up on the couch with. Will have to check out the link! Wendy

    1. This will be the easiest thing you have ever knit. On a par with dishcloths! I knit these while watching the owlcam :)

  2. OK, I've gotta' find me one of those sticks!!! Imagine the things you can measure with a log ruler?! Thanks for the hint on the slippers - I knitted some really cute mukluks a few years ago - everyone I gave them to loved them so much, they wore them right through the bottoms - THESE might be the thing to knit!

    1. You might as well give this a whirl - it won't take long ;) And I'd love to see the mukluk pattern, Tanya! Is it on ravelry? Or do you have a link? Thanks!

    3. Quinn - these were the ones that were popular two years ago, at our LYS - I made about 5 pairs of these, I think. Great pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/-116-mukluk-slippers And then someone last month dropped this off, as a sample - absolutely adorable!!! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/150-4-little-red-riding-slippers

    1. It is kind of magical, and I love it when it's deliberate...not so much when I accidentally felted a pair of merino/silk boot socks ;)

  4. Not wishing to be contrary, but the whippets are hilarious, and often sit on my feet. Which makes it difficult to walk. You're right, the slippers win ;o)

  5. It is so funny that you used a log stick to measure them! What a big change with washing, and they sure do look warm.

    1. In a house that contains at least three tape measures and two tailor's tapes as well as several small rulers and one yardstick, the ONLY measuring device I could put my hands on was that Biltmore stick. Too funny!
I felted the slippers a little more, and now they are thicker, snugger, alpaca-and-wool miracle workers. Win/win! (That's a win for each foot.)
