plans

"Get up! A crime has been committed! Our one and only string of tiny colorful lights by the birdfeeder is gone!

Hmmm, let's take a look.
Ah. I think the culprit has returned to the scene of the crime.

You there! Squirrel!

"lalalalalalala..."

Squirrel!
Ahoy!

"Who? What? Me?"
Yes, you. I think you chewed right through that string of lights,
and carried the whole thing away to your nest.

"Me? You're accusing me??"

Yes, and I'll tell you why:
I saw you holding a tiny yellow light bulb in your adorable little hands one morning, not long ago.
I thought at the time it looked rather odd.
A squirrel with a light bulb.

"Circumstantial!"

"But if I did take the string of lights...and I'm not saying I did, mind, but if I did...it's only because I needed some cheering up.
Your squirrel-proof birdfeeder is driving me a bit crazy.
So if I wanted some little glowing lights to brighten up my nest, well, who could blame me?"
Okay, squirrel. I take your point.
And if you did take the string of lights...and I'm not saying you did, mind, but if you did...how is that "brightening up the nest" plan working out for you?

"About as well as that dog's plan to catch me by barking."

  1. LOL - perhaps the squirrel thought the lightbulb was a scrawny "imported" acorn?

I love squirrels - even if they are rodents.

  2. LOL. I'm noting that you have a rather chubby squirrel there :)

Squirrels are generally on my list of pests, but they are both amazing and amusing, no doubt about it.

    1. Except for the ones that got into my attic by chewing a hole through a screen, the squirrels here have been more fun than trouble. But the things they "harvest" are sometimes surprising!

    1. Piper has a vendetta against All Squirrels, so notorious squirrelly thieves must be especially aggravating to her!

    1. Thanks, Sandra :)
I don't much mind squirrels, but raccoons have sure worn out their welcome here. Actually they were never "welcome" but now I'll run one off as soon as I see it.

  8. Oh my, those are fabulous photos of the squirrel and a wonderful story! Is there a Christmas light bedecked squirrel nest nearby?

    1. I hope so, because I'd hate to think the squirrel actually ate the string of lights! I've never looked into a squirrel's nest, but considering some of the things I've seen them carry off, grey squirrels may be a sort of fluffy-tailed magpie in disguise.
