Today it was raining lightly, so breakfast was served in the little goat barn for the younger does.

Lily of the Valley assesses the overall quality of the hay by doing the crucial face-test, while Violet takes the single-stem approach for a finely-tuned analysis:

There's something about listening to animals eat. It's just pleasant, I don't know why.

of horses, the sound of goats, with their equally steady but more rapid

is very smile-producing.
Really, goats in general are very smile-producing, as many of your comments have indicated.
I am so happy you are enjoying the goats :)
But hark! Violet suddenly stops munching, and is all alertness.
It is the morning school bus, which picks up a gaggle of young children at the corner, about 400 feet downslope from the goat barn.
One of Violet's tasks is to supervise the loading and departure of the bus every day.
(Except weekends, of course. Everyone deserves time off.)
Here they come.

Prayers you get your laptop fixed and find a backup. Cell phone? A local community type place use your help with used ones. Maybe your area has such a place.
ReplyDeleteThanks for prayers and suggestion. I actually own a very basic cell phone (from way back when I used to be out and about more) but there is almost zero signal here at home. Internet/landline is a big monthly expense, but I don't think I can safely do without it.

ReplyDeleteAt this point in my hearing loss, I think I'd have to hold a cavy at ear-level to actually hear the munching :) But you've reminded me of when I used to raise rabbits back in CO. munch munch munch!

ReplyDeleteViolet and Lily were the babies - the FIRST babies - when I wrote this post, and now they are the Grand Dames of the herd. I can hardly believe how much time has passed, and how very quickly.
DeleteDarn. Sorry to hear about your laptop woes. Good thing you had some drafts in blogger and were able to take us on a walk down memory lane. I take photos on my phone and then send them to myself by email which I open on my laptop and download for uploading to my blog. :) Where there's a will there's a way. Hope you get sorted soon.
