A couple of hours ago there was a sudden torrential downpour, right in the middle of a sunny afternoon.
An hour later, the sun was shining again, and the air was cool and sweet with the smell of flowers.
Lately, people here talk about the weather with such heartfelt relief in their voices, after the long wearisome rains, heat, and high humidity of early summer.
Seems like we had the Dog Days of August in May and June, this year. There was only one way to deal with it, and it only worked for some of us.
But recently we've been enjoying delightful glimpses of May.
In July and August.
Unexpected.
Refreshing.
Miraculous.
Blue skies.
Cool mornings, with clear air.
It may not last.
Heck, it will not last.
But these are moments and hours and days to savor.
And you never know...
there may be more miracles waiting in the wings.
~~~
I hope you are enjoying the beginning of August, whether you are in the middle of summer or the middle of winter, or somewhere in between.
Quinn, today is the first day we've not had rain all week but it's still chilly. What say you? I think we're going to have a harsh winter...too many fruit, berries and nuts which is nature's way of saying, get ready! -lol-
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking ANYthing may happen. Seriously! I'm just hoping it's something good :)
DeleteYour dog is so cute! Sounds like a wonderful day and wonderful weather! We've had some cooling here and the nights have been much cooler...I love that! We still haven't had rain though. Still hoping. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree - cool nights are great sleeping weather!
DeleteAnd anyway, I love the rain. Especially in the wee hours of dawn. Soothing sounds, and soul cleansing! The cool night air makes for a peaceful sleep.
ReplyDeleteWhen the rain started yesterday I was glad I was here to run outside and cover the hay. :)
DeleteLovely photos! we played our usual "who does that remind you of?" game when we saw Piper. Our dog had a similar look when she submerged herself in a huge puddle in the woods last Thursday.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I thought of you and your friend's dog, too - because when I called Piper over to give her a pat, I soon found she had rolled in...something. We BOTH needed a rinse in the brook yesterday!
DeleteWe've been somewhere in-between which has been really nice for a change from hot and more hot that we usually experience in so. Cal this time of year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden pic, I hope your harvest is a plenty. Thanks for stopping
That "more than usual" thing seems to be going around this year. In New England, we're accustomed to extremes and variability in weather, but this year it has seemed like mostly extremes, and very little variability.
DeleteI've heard more than one person say we've had a whole summer of dog days-and I totally agree LOL!
